Nominating Committee

I would like to nominate Audrey Fischer of Chicago, Illinois to be considered for the IDA Board of Directors. Audrey is a bundle of energy and enthusiasm, and she has made great contributions to IDA in recent years. Among many other activities, here are a few examples of her accomplishments:

  • Earlier this year, she was instrumental in motivating the Lt Gov of Illinois to hold a press conference on the urgent need to control light pollution. This meeting was well attended by media and local politicians, and it made a lasting impression.
  • She arranged for a live radio interview concerning the 2008 Lights Out Chicago, and this in turn, educated many people in the metro area about light pollution.
  • She has worked with vice-presidents of the Adler Planetarium to encourage them to develop programs and displays about astronomy.
  • She generously donated resources (printed letters, stamps, envelopes, and more) for a USA Congressional letter writing campaign during the Senate staff hearings on light pollution. These products were used during a major astronomical conference earlier this year.
  • She has taken hundreds of high quality digital images to help IDA in its mission. These were photos of important meetings, astronomical images, photos before and after Lights Out, and many others. These have been made available to IDA for publicity.

Audrey Fischer has agreed to run for election if approved by the nominating committee, and she has sent biographical background to the IDA staff. I encourage you to select Audrey as one of the candidates for this year’s election.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Bob Gent, Lt Col, USAF, Ret.,
Past-president, IDA Board of Directors,
And Past-President, Astronomical League
